Sie Ting Wong, age 77 of Mundelein. Loving father of Ha Kung (Joanne Kong) Wong and Meelynn (Pat Gouttebel) Wong. Adored grandfather of Jazzie Gouttebel-Wong. Dear brother of Wong Su Teck, Wong Su Heng, Wong Su Ting, Wong Su Chong, Wong Siu Kong, Wong Siu Hua and Wong Siu Hiong. Loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

From his beginnings in a very remote part of Sarawak, Malaysia, where there were no hospitals or any real access to healthcare, and living in a wooden house, with no running water or electricity, Sie Ting worked incredibly hard to earn a PhD in biochemistry at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. From there, Sie Ting went to research and teach at the University of Rochester Cancer Center, before moving to Illinois to work at Abbott Laboratories. In 1986, he helped invent and develop the Abbott VISION System, an innovative clinical chemistry analyzer that could begin with a small sample of whole blood and automatically perform optical analysis for numerous tests simultaneously including glucose, cholesterol, markers relevant to kidney health, enzymes, potassium, and medication levels, which even today has influenced later generations of diagnostic systems that help millions of people every year.
In addition to science, he was a lover of national parks, running and, of course, his family.

Visitation will be August 14th from 4 pm to 6 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling. A eulogy sharing service will be held at 5 pm. Dinner immediately following.
