Obituary

Ruthanne G. Johnson, age 95, a 62 year resident of Arlington Heights passed away on December 15, 2024. She was the daughter of Clare and Charles M. Galitz, Jr. and grew up in Norwood Park. Her career began at Kraft Foods Inc. where she met the love of her life, Frank E. Johnson. They were married for 49 years when Frank passed away. Ruthanne was a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in psychology which helped her in the advertising department where she ran the Junior Miss program for the Kraft company (now called Distinguished Young Women), a national scholarship program along with many other managerial responsibilities.. When she retired from Kraft, she continued to be a lifelong learner attending classes at the Institute for Continued Learning at Roosevelt University; studying flute, viola, violin, and cello; belonging to a Current Events group; and playing chess and other games with friends. She played clarinet with the Palatine Concert Band for many years and was a patron of the Chicago Symphony. Preceding her in death were her parents and her only brother, Robert A. Galitz..  Ruthanne is survived by a nephew, Chuck Galitz of Joliet; a niece, Denise Galitz Edvenson (Jeff) of Champlin, MN; two great nieces, Jessica and Jenna Edvenson of MN; and many loving friends. Friends and family celebrated her life at her 95 birthday in October this year. At her request there will be no services.  Ruthanne was a very generous woman who donated to many organizations.  Four of her favorites were the Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy, Common Cause, and The ACLU Foundation.  If you would like to donate to these organizations in her name, she would be honored.
