With heavy hearts, we share that Ross Allen Lange, age 59, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025.
Ross lived his life with a big heart, an easy smile, and a love for people that shined through in everything he did. He spent much of his life working in hospitality and food service starting out as a bartender and working his way up to manager. What he loved most about his work was simple: the people. Ross had a way of making everyone feel welcome, whether it was behind the bar, at a dinner table, or in everyday life.
He had a true gift for caring for others. Ross was the best at picking out thoughtful gifts, always found joy in sharing a good meal, and never passed up the chance to make someone laugh. He was a proud Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, loved the crisp air and colorful leaves of fall, and had a special fondness for road trips especially to Wisconsin. Though he never owned a camper, he loved the idea of them and the adventures they represented. And if you were going out to eat with Ross, chances are he'd be suggesting Cooper's Hawk.
Ross's greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his loving son, Quentin Lange; his dear sister, Julie Sommerfeld, and her husband Leroy Sommerfeld; and his cherished mother-in-law, Carol Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and June Lange, as well as his wives, Carol and Karen, who both passed before him.
True to his giving nature, Ross made the selfless decision to donate his brain to Northwestern Medicine for research before his passing, a choice he took great pride in. His hope was to help others through continued learning and discovery.
To know Ross was to love him. His warmth, kindness, and humor will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared with all of us.
Visitation Tuesday, September 2nd from 9:00 am until the service at 11:00 am at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Avenue (2 Blocks South of Dundee Road) Wheeling, IL. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Ross's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
Forever in our hearts, like the autumn leaves he loved so much.
