Obituary

Lawrence Edwin Goerges, only son of Edwin and Leitha Goerges and a resident of Lincolnshire, Illinois, passed on Thursday, February 6, 2025 after a bout of illness. Larry, as his friends and family refer to him, was born in Berwyn, Illinois in 1936. He graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and served in the Transportation Corps of the United States Army. He was at the forefront of the emergence of computers and data processing in the 1960s and 1970s and helped to bring corporate America into the age of Information Technology. He then worked as an IT Consultant for decades afterward. Larry was originally married to Darlene Stallman Goerges of Dwight, Illinois and had three sons, Jeff, Chris and Greg. He lost Darlene to cancer in early 1972, and many years later he met Sabine Kesting, a widow with 3 children of her own, Gordon, Margo, and Rodney. Larry and Sabine fell in love and married in May of 1995. This new large extended family was a joy to Larry, and they spent time traveling around the country and Europe visiting the large clan. Larry's true passion was trains. He was one of the founders of the Illinois Railway Museum in the 1950s and was an active member for almost 70 years. He spent much of his young life collecting railway history books and memorabilia. Larry is survived by his wife, three sons, grandchildren, and extended family. A memorial service will be held for Lawrence on Saturday, February 15th at 2:00pm at North Suburban Evangelical Free Church at 200 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield, Illinois, 60015. The service can also be viewed remotely at this live stream link: https://www.youtube.com/live/KIqw2Rznpf0 In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider a donation on behalf of Larry Georges to the Illinois Railway Museum at: https://www.irm.org/fundraising/
