Joan Theresa
Pryby
April 8, 1933 — October 22, 2026
Northbrook
Joan T. Pryby (Lamm), 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2026. She was born on April 8, 1933, in Freeport, Illinois. Joanie lives on through her sons, Kip (Joyce), Todd (Carol), Robert (Ronnie), Matt (Sue) and Shawn. Grandchildren, Christopher (Brittney), Jacob, Samantha (Tyler), Troy; Great Grandchildren, McKenna Joan, Ellie, Rowan, and little sister Nancy (Scanlon). She is now reunited with her husband Phillip; daughter, Kimmy; grandson, Joshua; parents Lawrence and Mildred; and big sister Millie (Sreenan). Joanie graduated Mount Morris High School in 1951 where her many fond memories included winning the women’s championship four years in a row at Sunset Golf Club and being scouted by the Rockford Peaches. In 1954 she would graduate from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing as class president and go on to continue her calling as an RN at Holy Family and Lutheran General, before opening Glenbrook Hospital in 1977 where she would work for the next 21 years. Joanie met the love of her life Phillip during nursing training. Following a first date on a golf course, they would marry two years later; a marriage they would celebrate for the next 65 years. Joanie had the biggest heart and the kindest soul. She was incredibly generous, adventurous, funny, and full of an unconditional love that she shared with everyone. Her strength and perseverance was an inspiration to many. Joanie’s secret to a long life remained simple, just keep a good attitude and enjoy yourself. Always remember, life is too precious to be anything but happy. In honor of Joanie, please take a moment to say thank you to a nurse.
