James E. Ashley, age 92, of McHenry, formerly of Wheeling peacefully passed on Monday, March 24, 2025. He was born April 11, 1932, in Davy, WV to Stacy and Flossie (nee Thompson) Ashley. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. Left behind to cherish his memory are his son-in-law, David Hilgenberg; granddaughter, Alyssa (Jake) Mach; great-grandchildren, Hadley, Brooklyn, Layla, Kane; nieces, Karla Gervais, Terry Vidaurri Gervais, Michelle Ashley; nephews, David, Mike, and Tommy Gervais; friend, Evelyn Herdus; and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife Betty, daughter Robin Hilgenberg, and siblings Grace (George) Childress, Geneva (Joseph) Gervais, Madeline (Royal) Thacker, Alice (Samuel) Dayton, Garfield Ashley, and Walter K. Ashley. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1, from 11:30 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Two Blocks South of Dundee Road) Wheeling, IL. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in James' name to American Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
