Obituary

Elizabeth Ann O'Conor, born on July 25, 1935, peacefully passed away on July 20, 2024. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John B. O'Conor, her parents Florence and Mary McCarthy, and her siblings Madeline, Flory, and Marie. Betty spent her formative years in Whitman, MA where her family owned McCarthy Brothers Ice Cream. She graduated from Whitman High School in 1953, and earned her degree from Regis College in 1957. In 1961, she married John, and together they embarked on a journey that included five moves and the joyous arrival of seven children. In 1971, Betty and John settled in Buffalo Grove, IL. They maintained a cherished tradition of annual visits to Cape Cod, reuniting with family and friends. Betty was an active volunteer at St. Edna Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, Wheeling High School and St. Joseph Home for the Elderly. She was honored for her support by being inducted into the Wheeling High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Betty is survived by her loving children: Tara (David) Spellman of Norfolk, MA; Sean(Jill) O'Conor of Chicago; Shannon (Bill) McKeown of Chicago; Maureen O'Conor of Queens, NYC; Tim (Missy) O'Conor of Des Plaines; Dan (Margaret) O'Conor of Chicago and Ann (Bob) Libit of Arlington Heights. She also leaves behind sixteen cherished grandchildren: Clare, Donald, Elizabeth, John, Eleanor, Delaney, Campbell, Jack, Keith, Catherine, Tierney, Quinlan, Michael, Matthew, Kael, and Shea. Betty's life was defined by her unwavering love for her family, her faith, and her community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the countless lives she touched. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 24 from 3-8 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home in Wheeling. A funeral service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 10 am at St. Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, IL. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Home for the Elderly in Palatine, IL.
