Obituary

Eleftherios Papageorgiou "Larry Pappas", age 84 of Des Plaines. Loving husband of Sophia Pappas nee Maglaris for 51 years. Adored father of Nick (Maria) Papageorgiou and Sophia (Andreas) Papadakis. Cherished papou of Manousos and Maria Papdakis, Victoria, Patricia, Sophia, and Leftheri Papageorgiou. Fond brother of George (Mando) Papageorgiou, and Gus (Eleni) Pappas. Loved by many nieces and nephews. Loving friend to many. Larry was born in Melisona, Evia, Greece. Around the age of 4 years old, he and his parents moved to Karystos, Evia, Greece where he resided for most of his early years. At 18, Larry embarked on a military career as an officer of the Greek military, serving with honor for several years. Seeking new opportunities, Larry moved to the United States at the age of 21, driven by a vision of a brighter future. He pursued a degree in Cosmetology, which led him into the field of hairstyling and barbering. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually guided him into the restaurant industry, initially starting as a bus boy and working his way up to become a skilled chef. After gaining valuable experience, Larry fulfilled his dream of owning his own restaurant. Larry was the president of Pan Euobean Society, Vice President of Enosis, and a member of AHEPA. He was the owner of Rise N Dine in Wheeling, IL for 15 years. At 32, Larry met the love of his life, Sophia. They married in May of 1973, marking the beginning of a loving partnership. Together, they raised their children, Nick and Sophia, who in turn blessed them with 6 cherished grandchildren. Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting family first. Larry will be remembered for his resilience, work ethic, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones. His legacy lives on through the memories he created and the lives he touched. He loved to throw parties, inviting all of his friends and family over to his house. As his children grew to have their own children the traditions continued on. From hosting holidays, to making tik toks, and taking pictures of everyone to post on Facebook. Larry was always the light of the room, he loved to entertain the people around him with his unique jokes and funny tricks. He most importantly thrived on the dance floor. Anytime there was music, he was the first on the dancefloor. And sometimes you could even find him on the stage with the musicians. Larry lived his life to the fullest always surrounded by his loved ones who will forever miss him.
