Donald L. Roalkvam, age 76 of Wheeling. Beloved husband of Joan Roalkvam nee Blong. Loving father of Daniel (Denise Shaughnessy) and Michael (Kimberly) Roalkvam. Adored grandfather of Nathanael, Matthew, Emily, and Joshua. Dear brother of the late David (Rhonda) Roalkvam and brother-in-law of Robert (Susan) Blong and Alex (JoAnn) Stefanik. Loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Don was a dedicated member of the Indian Trails Public Library District Board of Trustees for over 20 years. In addition to serving at various points as the President of the Board and other roles, he was also active at the state and national level. His efforts were recognized in numerous ways, including being named the Illinois Library Association Trustee of the Year in 2007. His community involvement wasn't limited to library affairs. He was a valued contributor to his church where he served as a lector for over 30 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and an organizer of countless activities and fundraisers. In his final years, Don threw himself into supporting his fellow residents at Addolorata Villa with the same zeal he approached all of his community service. Whether he was reading at mass, calling bingo, meeting prospective residents, or filling any of the dozens of other roles he volunteered for, he did it with a smile on his face and a cheerful willingness to help all who asked. He is gone too soon, and everyone who met Don will miss him. We will cherish his memory. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, January 25th from 1 pm to 5 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave (2 Blocks South of Dundee Road), Wheeling. Monday, January 27th, a memorial visitation will be held at 10:30 am at the Addolorata Villa, 555 McHenry Road, Wheeling. A memorial mass will follow at 11:30 am. Inurnment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Indian Trails Public Library Foundation or the Addolorata Villa are greatly appreciated.
