Obituary

Daniel T. Sherlock Sr., 94, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026. Born on November 8, 1931, in Brooklyn, Daniel was the beloved son of Mary and Daniel Sherlock. He grew up alongside his sisters, Ruth (Stanley) Klimek and Mary (James) Koehler. Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1952 and serving during the Korean War until 1954. After completing his military service, he continued his education, graduating from Brooklyn Preparatory School and later earning his degree from St. John's University in 1961. In June 1957, Daniel married the love of his life, Jane (née Hughes). Together they built a beautiful life in Lindenhurst, where they raised seven children in a home centered on faith, love, and laughter. Daniel built a successful and respected career with Allstate Insurance Company, serving as a District Sales Manager before being appointed Sales Training Manager in Chicago, Illinois in 1987. His leadership, integrity, and dedication earned him the admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Later in life, Dan settled in Buffalo Grove, where he became an active member of St. Mary Parish. There he continued his lifelong commitment to his faith, serving as a lector and Eucharistic minister, participating in the Men's Club, and acting as President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Whether assisting those in need or volunteering at parish events, Dan gave generously of his time and talents. His faith was the foundation of his life. He was previously devoted to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst, where he served as a lector, was a member of the Holy Name Society, and held the position of President of the School Board. Dan also knew how to enjoy life. He looked forward to Wednesday night bocce games, valued the camaraderie of the parish golf outings, and cherished time spent with family. A proud New Yorker at heart, he was a devoted and die-hard New York Mets fan — a loyalty that did not always align with winning seasons, but never wavered. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Jane (Hugh), Daniel (Ingrid), Mary Ellen (Jerry), Nancy (Chris), Thomas (Maria), and Gerard (Erica). He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Kathleen. He was a proud grandfather to Courtney (Mike), Hugh (Annie), Chelsea, Nicholas, Andrew, Lindsay (Jared), Trevor, Christopher (Justine), Myles (Giovanna), Noah (Jenny), Natalie, Paige, Meagan, Julianna, Colin, Anna (Jack), Gabby, and Marissa. He was further blessed with great-grandchildren: Connor, Mairen, Brynn, Hugh, Poppy, Archer, Madelyn, Christopher, Lilly, and Quinn. Daniel will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; a faithful servant to his Church; a respected professional; and a man whose steady presence, quiet strength, and enduring faith shaped the lives of all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the communities he so faithfully served. Visitation Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 3-8 pm at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S.
